Air Quality Alert In Rhode Island From Canadian Wildfires
Heavy smoke from wildfires in Canada led to dangerously high levels of fine particles in the air.

NEWPORT, RI — Rhode Island was placed under an air quality alert on Tuesday due to smoke from Canadian wildfires. While conditions are expected to improve Wednesday, the effects are expected to linger.
The heavy smoke raised fine particle concentrations to unhealthy levels, the Department of Environmental Management said. Moderate concentrations are expected Wednesday.
To avoid exposure to the unsafe conditions, the department encouraged Rhode Islanders to avoid strenuous activities and exercise outside, and to stay inside, in air-conditioned places if possible. People with heart or lung issues, children and the elderly are most at risk.
