NEWPORT, RI — The killing of an 85-year-old woman at a Newport motel poses no threat to the public, police said.
"Preliminary investigation indicates this was an isolated incident, and there is no known threat to the public," the Newport Police Department said in a media release.

The slain woman, Terry Costello, was found by police in room 132 of the Harbor Base Inn on Connell Highway shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, the release said.

Officers had gone to the motel at the request of the Bristiol Police Department to inform Costello her 66-year-old son had jumped to his death from the Mount Hope Bridge, according to the release.

An autopsy was conducted by the Rhode Island State Medical Examiner’s Office and "this death is being investigated as a homicide," the release said.
