Aquidneck Growers' Market Finds Winter Home

The market will be held at the Easton's Beach Rotunda in Newport every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 :30 p.m.

NEWPORT, RI — Summer may be over, but East Bay residents can still buy fresh, local food at the farmer's market, all winter long. On Tuesday, the Aquidneck Growers' Market announced that it officially has a cold-weather home.

"We are so relieved to have found a home for the winter months," said Bevan Linsley, the executive director of Aquidneck Community Table. "The market supports more than 30 farmers and small business people who depend on winter sales for their livelihood – a farmers market is an important link in the chain of food moving from farms to tables. And in addition to that, our market is a delightful community event!"

The rain-or-shine event will be held every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the ground level of the Easton's Beach Rotunda at 175 Memorial Boulevard in Newport. The location has plenty of parking, allowing shoppers to buy local products, drop off food scraps, visit the Save The Bay Aquarium and enjoy Newport's beautiful shoreline. In the vent of severe weather, the market will be canceled and a notice will be posted on the market's Facebook page.

The first winter market will be held on Nov. 2. Due to a previously scheduled event at the rotunda, the market will be held in the parking lot on the Middletown side of the beach.

The market provides shoppers with a selection of local foods including produce, meat, eggs, fish, baked goods and more. Thanks to a partnership with Healthy Soils, Healthy Seas RI, residents can drop off household food scraps as well.
