Assault Charge for Man Accused of Shoving Woman at Slot Parlor
Police arrested the 58-year-old Newport man after he allegedly shoved and poked a woman playing slots with a friend.
Newport Police charged Paul Coite, 58, of 90 Girard Ave., Newport, with simple assault on Monday after he allegedly shoved a woman at the Newport Grand slot parlor on Monday.
Police said the victim called police to report being assaulted at around 5:48 p.m.
Upon arrival, the victim told officers that Coite came up to her and her friend as they were playing slots and he started calling her offensive names.

He then shoved her twice in the stomach and poked her in the shoulder, she alleged.
Police said a review of security camera footage coorobrated the victim’s statement, though the shoves were not very violent nor did the victim have bruises or signs of injury to her body, according to a police report.

Coite was taken into custody without incdent and later released with an Aug. 5 court date in District Court.
