Baby's Mother Fought With Officers: Newport Police Allege
Her husband was stopped for speeding. When police realized he didn't have a license, they called a tow truck. She objected, police allege.

NEWPORT, RI — Police cited a Providence man for speeding and subsequently charged the mother of his child with several offenses on June 26. According to the arrest report, Edrich J. Fuentes Perez, 24, was stopped on Admiral Kalfbus Road by the Route 138 eastbound off ramp at 12:37 a.m. Police said he appeared to be speeding, and one headlight was not working. During the stop, a woman carrying her baby arrived with a friend. Danelis Sanchez Rivera, 20, of Newport, told officers she would take the car. However, police had decided to tow the vehicle.
She objected. Police allege she handed the baby to her friend and punched an officer in the chest. She attempted to take the car, despite police instructions.
Fuentes Perez then indicated he did not understand English, although he had responded to the officer earlier. Ultimately, he walked back to Park Holm with the baby. Sanchez Rivera was charged with Simple Assault or Battery; Obstructing an officer; and Resisting arrest.
