Bad Valentine? Irate Newport Man Smashes Car Window Over Ex-Girl Friend & Fights Police

A police officer tazed a 21-year-old Newport man in the Coddington Point condos parking lot after he punched an officer in the face.

NEWPORT, RI—Police say Julio Saez-Martinez was enraged when his ex-girlfriend found a new partner. They arrested the 21-year-old homeless man at 11:22 p.m. on Feb. 14 in the Coddington Point Condos parking lot after he smashed a car rear window and splintered glass all over his ex and her new girl friend.

According to the arrest report, Saez-Martinez turned up in the parking lot when his ex, her new partner and two other women were coming home from a dinner together. When an officer arrived, he found Saez-Martinez standing next to the car. His right hand was bleeding, an injury that appeared to have occurred when he "punched out the back window," the officer said.

Saez-Martinez allegedly threatened to fight the police officer, whom he knew from "previous police contacts," the officer said. He pushed the officer and came at him, with fists raised, police allege. The officer thought Saez-Martinez meant to strike him, so he punched the suspect. Saez-Martinez punched back. A crowd gathered around them.
