BankNewport Employees Give Back To Rhode Island

NEWPORT, R.I. (December 7, 2017) – Employees of BankNewport and OceanPoint Insurance (OPI) recently participated in multiple service projects to benefit local organizations in partnership with the United Way of Rhode Island. Employees created 60 no sew fleece blankets, 150 snack packs and wrote 150 letters to the troops. The service projects were part of the Bank and OPI’s annual workplace giving campaign in support of the United Way.

The “‘no sew” blankets were made by cutting and knotting the fringe of colorful fleece fabrics, to provide a child with sense of security and a cozy reminder that someone cares. Healthy snack choices were packed into decorated brown paper bags as a treat for students in afterschool programming. And letters of encouragement and appreciation to our military were written and sent to active, reserve and veteran troops who are serving home, abroad or may be injured in hospitals.

Beneficiaries of the blankets were the Rhode Island Community Action Association of Cranston and the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Snack Packs were delivered to both the Manton Avenue Project and the Wanskuck Community Library both in Providence. The letters to the troops were delivered to Equity National in Providence, a drop off location for A Million Thanks, the organization who provides letters to active and veteran military men and women.
