Begging in Broadway Restaurants? Man Charged with Disorderly Conduct After a Scuffle

NEWPORT, RI — Police on Wednesday arrested Marc Anderson Adams, 63, of Newport. The officers were called around 9:34 p.m. to Broadway near Rex's Liquors for a report of two men in a physical fight.

No one was hurt in the scuffle. The other man said he is a friend of a restaurant owner. He claimed Adams went into his friend's restaurant and asked patrons for money. When told he had to leave, he went into the next door restaurant and asked those customers for money. Outside the restaurants, Anderson allegedly threatened to hurt the other man, although he apparently did not do so.

Police say they told him to stop making threats and arrested him on a disorderly conduct charge.
