Black Ships Festival 2017: Japanese Ships Arrive: Photos

NEWPORT, RI — The Japanese ships arrived at Naval Station Newport on Thursday. They were invited as part of the Black Ships Festival 2017. The Naval War College sent these photos taken by Mass Communication Specialist 2nd Class Jess Lewis.

The Newport Japan-American Council has invited the ship to participate in Newport’s annual Black Ships Festival commemorating the trade ties between Japan and the United States established by Commodore Matthew Perry and his “Black Ships” in 1854.
