Newport Rugby Club Gets Back to Winning Ways

Newport Rugby Club earns a 38-15 bonus point victory over Charles River Rugby Club in their most recent New England Rugby Football Union Men's Division II League game.

After a difficult start to the season that saw them lose three close games, the Newport Rugby Club got back to its winning ways with an emphatic 38-15 victory over the Charles River Rugby Club at last Saturday. Newport played some exciting rugby with long runs and big hits that pleased all the spectators that came out on the beautiful sun-drenched day.

A converted try from their captain, Jude Kerrison, gave Newport an early lead that they never relinquished.  Jay Coppa and Craig Richards added tries in the first half with Kerrison tacking on both two point conversions.  Kerrison also added a penalty, worth three points, to take Newport into half-time with a 24-3 lead. Charles River fought back in the second half to score two tries, one of which was converted but Newport were just too strong and added tries by Jamie Shriner and Philip Behan both of which were converted by Kerrison.

There were impressive performances all over the pitch from the Newport side but none more so than Man of the Match, Colin Roberts, who worked tirelessly throughout the game.
