Join your family, friends, and neighbors at the open mic at the Narragansett Café in Jamestown on Wednesday, May 20, from 7 to 9:15 pm. Enjoy live music, storytelling, standup comedy, poetry, dramatic readings, and anything else creative in a welcoming and comfortable space. 
Each performer has the stage from five to seven minutes. Signup is at 6:30. Performers can preregister at&nbsp;WedsLiveGanny@gmail.com. 
The event is free and open to the public. The food is great and so are the drinks. Non-alcoholic beverages are available.

Beautiful and historic Saint Mary's Church, home to Rhode Island's oldest Catholic parish, welcomes visitors daily this summer. Thanks to volunteer docents from the parish community, we can open the doors for prayer and visitation outside of regularly scheduled services. 
 
The building and grounds will be open Monday through Friday from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;Please use the William Street side entrance, accessed from Spring Street.
Weekend Masses at St. Mary's are Saturday at 5:15 pm and Sunday at 8:00 am and 11:00 am, during which time the building will also be open. Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, a Sunday 9:30 am Mass will be added to the schedule. 
 Note: Funerals and weddings may impact full access to the church.
Brief History The parish was established in 1828 to serve Newport's growing Catholic population, many of whom were Irish immigrants working on the construction of nearby Fort Adams. The congregation soon outgrew its first two buildings, which were located at Barney &amp; Mt. Vernon Streets, a short stroll from Washington Square. The Gothic Revival-style building you see today at the corner of Spring Street and Memorial Boulevard West was designed by Irish American architect Patrick C. Keely. Construction began in August 1848, and in July 1852, the building was dedicated to "The Holy Name of Mary, Our Lady of the Isle." 
Future president, John F. Kennedy, and Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, whose mother and stepfather summered in Newport, were married here on September 12, 1953. Saint Mary's was designated a National Historic Shrine in 1968 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Today, Saint Mary's is a vibrant Catholic faith community of approximately 1,200 families led by Fr. Mark A. Sauriol, who is also pastor of nearby Saint Augustin's Parish.

Loeb Visitors Center, 52 Spring Street, Newport, RI 02840

Follow in the footsteps of Newport’s colonial-era Jewish community and discover where congregants lived, worked, and worshiped in the 1700s. 
This guided walking tour leads you through the historic Touro Synagogue neighborhood, bringing the synagogue’s rich history to life. The tour lasts approximately one hour. May Tour Schedule: Every Sunday, Monday, and Thursday @ 11:00 a.m. (except Mon. May 4 @ 11:30 a.m. and Mon. May 18 @ 10:30 a.m.)
GUEST INFORMATION: •&nbsp;Tours are limited to 18 people. • Tour Fee is $18 per person • Reservations are requested • The tour fee is paid for in person at the Loeb Visitors Center via card or cash (no online payments). •&nbsp;Walks may be canceled without advance notice due to inclement weather.

Admissions fees to the Loeb Visitors Center's two floors of exhibits and the gift shop have been waived. We welcome donations and suggest a $5 per person.&nbsp;

The Museum of Newport Irish History Interpretive Center reopens for the 2026 season on Friday, May 22.
For the 2026 season, public hours are 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, through the last Sunday in October (closed Monday–Wednesday).
Visitors to the Center will learn about Irish immigration to Newport 
County from the colonial era to the present, and about the many 
contributions made to our community by individuals of Irish descent.
Interpretive Center exhibits—including maps, models, photographs, and artifacts—are organized around several key aspects of life in the local Irish community.
Our newest exhibit, unveiled in 2025, is an interactive digital display titled “Tracing the Tides.” This experience allows visitors to delve more deeply into the lives of Newport’s Irish immigrants through a rich, multi-layered narrative, illustrated with historic photos and other images—many not previously available to the public.

Flutist Amir Hoshang Farsi and pianist Chelsea Wang, both alumni of Carnegie Hall’s prestigious Ensemble Connect, join forces to close Newport Classical’s Chamber Series with brilliance and flair. The Jamestown Tick Task Force is pleased to present a program at the Jamestown Philomenanian Library with Dr. Joseph England on June 10th, from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm, entitled Tick Talk: Beyond Lyme Disease.&nbsp; April to October is the most active season for Deer and Lone Star ticks. However, ticks&nbsp;are active all year. Different tick species have different months when they are most active. Each species is capable of transmitting a variety of tick-borne illnesses. Dr. England, a well-known longtime family practice physician on Jamestown, has treated many patients with tick-borne illness during his long career in family medicine. He will present an overview&nbsp;of the tick problems in Jamestown and offer common sense insights on signs and symptoms of Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases and methods of prevention.&nbsp;You won’t want to miss this informative free talk and learn how to stay safe and tick-free this summer!
