Butts Hill Fort

The Butts Hill Fort Restoration Committee (BHFRC) is inviting volunteers to our annual Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 25th. Cleanup starts at 9 AM and goes on until 2 pm. Come anytime. The meeting point is on Southern Battery Green closest to the Portsmouth High School’s tennis courts lot and the upper wind turbine lot. Participants are asked to park along Dyer Street or at the Portsmouth High School’s Tennis Courts.
We are teaming up with the American Battlefield Trust on their 30th annual Park Day Event. According to their website: “Each year, thousands of history enthusiasts, community-minded citizens, families, Boy and Girl Scouts, ROTC units and more come together in an effort to help keep our nation’s heritage not only preserved, but pristine. Park Day allows the American Battlefield Trust to cast a spotlight on beloved American landscapes nationwide. Projects will keep historic sites and battlefields clean, open and accessible for the enjoyment of all.”
This will be a general cleanup of the parade grounds, pathways and open spaces. Every participant will need to sign a town liability form upon arrival. BHFRC staff will be on hand throughout the day, so if you join in progress, please sign in with a team member. Participants are asked to bring gloves, protective eye gear, loppers, shears, weed whackers, and rakes and chainsaws.

Bike Newport's free Daffodil Ride 2025 is on April 25! Enjoy a scenic 4-mile ride from Touro Park to Ballard Park amid blooming daffodils. Bike decor &amp; yellow attire encouraged.
Celebrate spring with Daffodil Ride 2026! This free, family-friendly event invites riders of all ages to enjoy the beauty of over 1.3 million blooming daffodils throughout Newport. Gather at Touro Park at 9:15 AM, and roll out at 9:30 AM for an easy 4-mile ride, ending at Ballard Park, where over 20,000 daffodils will greet us.
Dress in yellow, decorate your bike, and get daffy! Prizes will be awarded for the best-decorated bike and daffiest outfit. The ride also includes an exclusive stop at the stunning Bellevue House gardens, where thousands of daffodils will be in bloom.
Ground Rules:
<ul><li>Make sure your bike is ready to ride – pump up your tires and wear a helmet.</li><li>Bring a water bottle.</li><li>Please don’t pick the flowers.</li></ul>
Registration is free, but donations are encouraged ($10 suggested to support fall bulb planting).
