The Museum of Newport Irish History Interpretive Center is now open for the 2026 season.
For the 2026 season, public hours are 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, through the last Sunday in October (closed Monday–Wednesday).
Visitors to the Center will learn about Irish immigration to Newport 
County from the colonial era to the present, and about the many 
contributions made to our community by individuals of Irish descent.
Interpretive Center exhibits—including maps, models, photographs, and artifacts—are organized around several key aspects of life in the local Irish community.
Our newest exhibit, unveiled in 2025, is an interactive digital display titled “Tracing the Tides.” This experience allows visitors to delve more deeply into the lives of Newport’s Irish immigrants through a rich, multi-layered narrative, illustrated with historic photos and other images—many not previously available to the public.

Note: Private visits outside of regular hours, including during the off-season, may be arranged with advance notice so we might secure a docent.&nbsp;To inquire, please email:&nbsp;<a href="mailto:NewportIrishHistory@gmail.com" target="_blank">NewportIrishHistory@gmail.com</a> Celebrating 30 Years in 2026 The Museum of Newport Irish History, a volunteer-driven, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, was founded in 1996 and now boasts over 900 members. In addition to operating the Interpretive Center, the organization sponsors&nbsp;numerous educational, cultural, social, and fundraising events throughout the year, including the popular <a href="https://newportirishhistory.org/lectures/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">Annual Lecture Series</a>, which has just completed its 24th season. The organization also restored and maintains the <a href="https://newportirishhistory.org/historic-cemetery-tours/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">historic Barney Street Cemetery</a> at the corner of Barney and Mt. Vernon Streets, steps from Washington Square. It is the final resting place of many of Newport’s earliest Irish residents. The cemetery was established to support Rhode Island’s first Roman Catholic parish (est. 1828), the forerunner of the current St. Mary’s Church at the corner of Spring Street and Memorial Boulevard. Loeb Visitors Center at Touro Synagogue National Historic Site, 52 Spring St, Newport, RI, 02840

Follow in the footsteps of Newport’s colonial-era Jewish community and discover where congregants lived, worked, and worshiped in the 1700s. 
This guided walking tour leads you through the historic Touro Synagogue neighborhood, bringing the synagogue’s rich history to life. The tour lasts approximately one hour. June Tour Schedule: Every Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday @ 11:00 a.m. 
GUEST INFORMATION: •&nbsp;Tours are limited to 18 people. • Tour Fee is $18 per person • Reservations are requested • The tour fee is paid for in person at the Loeb Visitors Center via card or cash (no online payments). •&nbsp;Walks may be canceled without advance notice due to inclement weather.

Note: Some sidewalks are narrow and uneven. This walk is not appropriate for young children. Admissions fees to the Loeb Visitors Center's two floors of exhibits and the gift shop have been waived. We welcome donations and suggest a $5 per person.&nbsp;

The Jamestown Tick Task Force is pleased to present a program at the Jamestown Philomenanian Library with Dr. Joseph England on June 10th, from 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm, entitled Tick Talk: Beyond Lyme Disease.&nbsp; April to October is the most active season for Deer and Lone Star ticks. However, ticks&nbsp;are active all year. Different tick species have different months when they are most active. Each species is capable of transmitting a variety of tick-borne illnesses. Dr. England, a well-known longtime family practice physician on Jamestown, has treated many patients with tick-borne illness during his long career in family medicine. He will present an overview&nbsp;of the tick problems in Jamestown and offer common sense insights on signs and symptoms of Lyme disease and other tick-borne diseases and methods of prevention.&nbsp;You won’t want to miss this informative free talk and learn how to stay safe and tick-free this summer!
