Internationally acclaimed for their “fearless, yet probingly beautiful” performances (The Strad), the GRAMMY Award-winning Parker Quartet returns to Newport with a vibrant program featuring Beethoven, Paul Wiancko, and Schubert. From July 2-19, 2026, the Newport Classical Music Festival will again turn this “City by the Sea” into a summer destination for music lovers, featuring 30 concerts across 11 unforgettable venues, from cliffside lawns to gilded mansions, including the stunning interiors of The Breakers, The Elms, Castle Hill Inn, Blithewold Mansion, Rosecliff Mansion, Redwood Library and Athenæum, and more. For 57 years, Newport Classical has showcased classical music as a living art form, presenting artists and programs that are diverse and ever-evolving in intimate and iconic venues that make every performance one of a kind.

Highlights of the 2026 Festival include Opening Night with chamber orchestra Delirium Musicum; a celebration of the Golden Age of Opera with Lawrence Brownlee and Erin Morley; solo piano performances by Michelle Cann and Dmitry Shishkin, as well as a two-piano recital with Pavel Kolesnikov and Samson Tsoy; a new work by Vivian Fung, co-commissioned by Newport Classical, performed by Sandbox Percussion and violinist Kristin Lee; performances by violinist Eldbjørg Hemsing, VOCES8, Apollo’s Fire, Trio Karénine, WindSync, Cerus Saxophone Quartet, Beijing Guitar Duo, Parker Quartet, and more; two evenings with Broadway star Jeremy Jordan, known for his lead role in Newsies and most recently The Great Gatsby; and Closing Night with the GRAMMY Award-winning Harlem Quartet, joined by Newport Classical’s Resident Festival Artists.

Highlighting three visionary American composers, the program explores the American answer to the impressionist movement, highlighting the subtle textures, nuance, and distinctive spirit of early 20th century American music through the works of Arthur Foote, Charles Tomlinson Griffes, and Florence Price. Celebrate Newport’s rich tradition of religious diversity on Religious Freedom Day, Tuesday, July 7. Eleven Newport houses of worship, along with the Loeb Visitors Center, will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.&nbsp;&nbsp;A complete list of participating sites and a map are available on this Newport Historical Society webpage:&nbsp; <a href="https://newporthistory.org/event/independence-week-religious-freedom-day/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">newporthistory.org/event/independence-week-religious-freedom-day/</a>
At the Loeb Visitors Center, visitors are invited to explore two floors of interactive multimedia exhibits, browse the gift shop, and stroll through adjacent Patriot's Park. Celebrate more than 250 years of Touro Synagogue history, Newport's colonial Jewish community, the origins of religious liberty, and the separation of church and state in America. Discover how Newport and the Colony of Rhode Island laid the groundwork for our religious freedoms protected by the First Amendment. A centerpiece of the exhibits is the famous letter President George Washington wrote in 1790 to Newport's Hebrew congregation.
Admission is free; donations are warmly welcome. A 1-hour Colonial Jewish Walking Tour of the Touro Synagogue neighborhood will also be offered from the Loeb Visitors Center at 11:00 am on July 7. Visit Loeb Visitors Center on "Religious Freedom Day"

Celebrate Newport’s rich tradition of religious diversity and explore historic houses of worship throughout the city today, including St. Mary's Church.&nbsp; Participating Newport houses of worship will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Participating locations will have a lawn sign with the “Independence Week in Newport” logo set outside. Beautiful and historic Saint Mary's Church, home to Rhode Island's oldest Catholic parish, welcomes visitors daily this summer, including today, "Religious Freedom Day." Thanks to volunteer docents from the parish community, we can open the doors for prayer and visitation outside of regularly scheduled services. Please use the William Street side entrance, accessed from Spring Street. Plenty of free parking in the lots accessed from William Street.&nbsp; The accessible entrance to the church is located in the breezeway between the rectory and garage, where accessible restrooms are also located.<a href="https://newporthistory.org/event/independence-week-religious-freedom-day/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"></a>
Weekend Masses at St. Mary's are Saturday at 5:15 pm and Sunday at 8:00 am and 11:00 am, during which time the building will also be open. Beginning Memorial Day Weekend, a Sunday 9:30 am Mass will be added to the schedule. 
 Note: Funerals and weddings may impact full access to the church.
Brief History The parish was established in 1828 to serve Newport's growing Catholic population, many of whom were Irish immigrants working on the construction of nearby Fort Adams. The congregation soon outgrew its first two buildings, which were located at Barney &amp; Mt. Vernon Streets, a short stroll from Washington Square. The Gothic Revival-style building you see today at the corner of Spring Street and Memorial Boulevard West was designed by Irish American architect Patrick C. Keely. Construction began in August 1848, and in July 1852, the building was dedicated to "The Holy Name of Mary, Our Lady of the Isle." 
Future president, John F. Kennedy, and Jacqueline Lee Bouvier, whose mother and stepfather summered in Newport, were married here on September 12, 1953. Saint Mary's was designated a National Historic Shrine in 1968 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2008. Today, Saint Mary's is a vibrant Catholic faith community of approximately 1,200 families led by Fr. Mark A. Sauriol, who is also pastor of nearby Saint Augustin's Parish.

Follow in the footsteps of Newport’s colonial-era Jewish community and discover where congregants lived, worked, and worshiped in the 1700s. 
This guided walking tour leads you through the historic Touro Synagogue neighborhood, bringing the synagogue’s rich history to life. The tour lasts approximately one hour. July Tour Schedule: Every Sunday, Monday, Thursday, and Friday @ 10:00 a.m. Plus Tuesday, July 7, at 11:00 a.m., for <a href="https://patch.com/rhode-island/newport/calendar/event/20260707/716ca593-cc44-407e-9f5f-482b4fa0b934/visit-loeb-visitors-center-on-religious-freedom-day" target="_blank">Newport Religious Freedom Day</a>, when the Loeb Visitor Center will open to the public.
