Child, 2, Falls Out Second Floor Window At Newport Heights

A 2-year-old was taken by Med Flight helicopter to Hasbro Children's Hospital on Wednesday.

NEWPORT, RI — A 2-year-old girl fell out a second floor window at Newport Heights. The accident happened around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Newport police said. Rescue workers treated the child on scene. She was crying but conscious. The fire department recommended a medical transport due to her age and the possibility she might have suffered internal injuries. The medical helicopter took the girl to Hasbro Children's Hospital. Her injuries were described as non life-threatening.

She is supposed to be released Thursday, police said.

Newport police are investigating the incident. The state Department of Children, Youth and Families was notified per police department policy. Police said the mother told them she was watching television downstairs while the 2-year-old and two other children slept upstairs. She heard a thump and went to investigate. When she didn't see the girl, she realized she had fallen out the window.
