Coast Guard: Kayaker Self Rescues After Craft Sinks Near Jamestown Bridge
A kayaker managed to swim to shore Sunday afternoon after his kayak started sinking in waters under the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge.

JAMESTOWN, RI—A kayaker managed to swim to shore Sunday afternoon after his watercraft started sinking in waters under the Jamestown Verrazzano Bridge. The Coast Guard station at Castle Hill was initially called around 2:20 p.m. for a report of a person in the water under the bridge. Other reports about an overturned vessel followed on scanner chatter.
"We did have a case," the Coast Guard said Sunday. But a rescue was not necessary because the kayaker was able to save himself.
