Cox Phone Service Outage Hits Rhode Island
City and town offices are without phone service following a widespread Cox Communications outage.
A widespread Cox Communications outage has affected phone service across Rhode Island on Tuesday. City offices and schools across Rhode Island are experiencing service disruptions.
An outage map from DownDetector shows widespread outages across Providence and Kent County, including Pawtucket, Providence, Cranston and Warwick, as well as in the East Bay, including Barrington, Bristol and much of Newport.
Providence Mayor Jorge Elorza said the outage affected several city departments and schools, but not any emergency lines. Anyone looking for assistance from the city is encouraged to email mccs@providenceri.gov instead of calling. School department questions can be directed to questions@ppsd.org.

In Coventry, police said the department's phone lines were not affected, though several local businesses are without phone service.
