Cranston Man Charged With Felony Drug Possession

Police allege Eric Stewart, 27, of Cranston, was carrying six small bags of cocaine.

NEWPORT, RI — Police on Sunday stopped a white pickup suspected of speeding. The stop was made at the Shell Rotary on Connell Highway at 7:45 p.m. The operator, Sheldon Luther, was given a citation. But police arrested the passenger, Eric Stewart, 27, of Cranston. Stewart, police allege, was wanted as a felony sex offender for failing to change his address when he moved. During the arrest, police also allege he was carrying a small amount of marijuana, and said they discovered six small bags of cocaine hidden in an Ice Breakers mint package.

Stewart was charged with felony drug possession (Schedule I,II,III,IV, and V) and taken into custody. Luther was free to go
