Cushing Shares Newport-Inspired Paintings in New Exhibit
The artist's first solo oil and watercolor paintings show has its opening reception tonight, Aug. 13.
Newport artist Frederick Ames Cushing has used the city as inspiration in several of his works, many depicting his favorite scenes along Ocean Drive and his family estate.
Now, the artist will unveil those works and more at his first solo show of oil and watercolor paintings.
is hosting Cushing's exhibit, "Recent Paintings," through September 4. Tonight, Saturday, Aug. 13, the show will have its opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. It is free and open to the public.

In addition to paintings depicting Newport scenes, a triptych entitled "Mermaids" will also be on display. "Mermaids" was painted in homage to Cushing's grandfather, Howard Gardiner Cushing, namesake of the Cushing Gallery.
Watercolors and oils of Costa Rica will round out the show.

The Isherwood Gallery, located at 108 William Street, is open Wednesdays through Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. For more information cal 401-619-1116 or go here.
