District 13 Senate Race: Democratic Candidates At Forum Monday
The four Democratic candidates for the District 13 Senate seat were at the Newport Public Library Monday night.

NEWPORT, RI — Seven Newport residents are running for state Senate. Three don't have to deal with a Primary. But the four Democrats in the campaign for the District 13 Senate seat, representing Jamestown and part of Newport, will have to face off in a Primary on July 18 to win the right to represent the party.
So, Monday night's candidate forum at the Newport Public Library, hosted by the Newport Democratic city committee, was a show just for the Democrats. The other contenders —Republican, Michael Smith, Independent, Kimberly A. Ripoli, and the Green Party's Gregory W. Larson, were not invited to participate, but at least one was spotted in the audience.
But all seven will have a seat at the next candidates' forum on June 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Pell Center, 518 Bellevue Ave., Newport.
