Drug & Gun Charges: Newport Police Arrest Providence Suspect
A confidential informant's information led to the arrest.

NEWPORT, RI—Police intercepted an alleged drug dealer making a heroin delivery at a housing project. The arrest happened Thursday night around 8:10.
Newport Police Detectives along with agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration arrested Jhonmar Roman, 24, of Providence. He is being charged as a Felon in Possession of a Firearm and with Possession (with Intent to Distribute) Heroin and Cocaine. The case is in Providence federal court.

"Utilizing a confidential source, Newport Police Vice/Narcotics Detective Ryan Doyle learned that Mr. Roman would be delivering 10 grams of Heroin to a local Newport Housing Development. At about 8:11 p.m. on September 14, 2017, Mr. Roman was observed entering the housing development and uniformed Newport Police Officers initiated a motor vehicle stop.
Lieutenant Michael Naylor, Commander of the Newport Police Vice/ Narcotics Division and Detective Doyle interviewed Mr. Roman where he admitted to having 10 grams of Heroin (street value $900) in the waist band of his pants. Mr. Roman also admitted that he had a firearm at his residence in Providence. Mr. Roman gave Detectives consent to search his residence. Lieutenant Naylor contacted agents from the Drug Enforcement Administration Task
Force and a search of Mr. Roman’s residence was conducted.

Inside the residence, Detectives located a stolen .40 caliber semi-automatic Sig Sauer handgun, 31 grams of Heroin (street value $2,800), 20 grams of Cocaine (street value $1,000) and $1,400 cash. These items were seized by the DEA Agents.
Lieutenant Naylor contacted the U.S. Attorney’s Office and it was determined Mr. Roman would be charged Federally with Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Possession with Intent to Distribute the Heroin and Cocaine
Mr. Roman was held overnight at the Newport Police station and transported the US Federal District Court in Providence."
