Drunken Man Charged with Assaulting Police Officer

Sebastian Quixan, 26, of Newport, was staggering on Bliss Road near Almy Street when neighbors called police to check on his well-being.

NEWPORT, RI—Bliss Road residents called police around 2:44 p.m. Sunday to check on the welfare of a man staggering in the road near Whitwell Avenue.

When police arrived, they found Sebastian Quixan, 26, of Newport, near the corner of Bliss and Almy. He was apparently intoxicated, so officers decided to take him to his home.

Quixan spoke little English, but police determined he had been living at 11 Newport Ave. However, when they arrived at that address, they found a vacant house and a sign stating the utilities had been disconnected.

Given the fact no one was home to supervise Quixan, the officers called a rescue. However, when the rescue arrived, Quixan became belligerent, police allege. He struck one of the officers.

He was charged with two counts of Simple Assault and Battery and taken to the jail.
