Early Dismissal for Newport Students Thursday

Newport students at Rogers High School will be dismissed from school one hour early today due to the snowstorm that has been delivering steady snow all day and will last until the evening.

All after school and evening activities have also been cancelled.

The snow Thursday has made for slippery conditions across Rhode Island, prompting many parents to wonder whether school should have been held in the first place.

The snow has also snarled the trash and recycling pickup schedule.

The snow is expected to continue into tonight before gradual clearing after 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.
