Easton's Beach Closed For Tropical Storm
Newport residents are encouraged to prepare for strong winds and high surf.
NEWPORT, RI — Tropical Storm Isaias is poised to hit Rhode Island Tuesday, bringing with it strong wind gusts and high surf, especially in coastal areas.
Newport officials closed Easton's Beach to swimming for the entire day Tuesday due to high surf and powerful rip currents. Parking lots closed at the end of the day Monday, and both lifeguard chairs and the new electronic pay stations were removed as a precaution.
In anticipation of storm surge, sandbags were placed around the rotunda.
