Eileen Slocum Americana Estate Auction This Weekend

So you thought the Folk Festival was the hot ticket in Town this weekend? The estate sale is passing out tickets British style today.

NEWPORT, RI— This weekend may offer a last chance for some to walk inside the late Newport socialite Eileen Slocum's mansion. It's not a party this time. It's an auction for some memorabilia steeped in history.

A table in front of the Bellevue Avenue home is the place to go Thursday for a shot at buying Colonel H.J. Slocum's original Spanish American War uniforms. His uniforms are just a few of the Americana in the auction. Expect to see pictures of Teddy Roosevelt and Col. Slocum, on horseback, of course; a photograph of the last Russian czar, plus silver and gold bowls and spoons; art, antique Teddy Bears (after President Teddy); antique toys and desk sets, military artifacts and vintage clothes.
