Elderly Man Hit in Crosswalk Has Died

NEWPORT, RI—Donald Ritter, 83, of Newport, has died of injuries suffered Feb. 8 when he was struck by a car on Broadway. He was in a crosswalk near Caleb Earl Street and on his way across the street when a 17-year-old Jamestown driver hit him.

Ritter was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he remained in critical condition for more than a week.

Police said this morning he died on Feb. 16.

The teenager has not been identified. Police said he waited at the scene, however. The accident is still under investigation.
