Competing for Laughs

Laughletics, competitive improv comedy, plays like a sports match complete with referee. Teams compete in improvised games to win laughs and applause from the audience. They play both games they choose & games to which they are challenged. Fans can see Laughletics the Last Saturday of every month at Firehouse Theater (www.firehousetheater.org). On March 26 at 10 pm teams will be chosen from a field of 6 to 8 players from all over southern New England. The match starts at 10 following The Bit Players at 8.

Laughletics performances consist of a series of short-form, improvised skits, or “bits”, with four to six players alternating roles. The audience participates by suggesting themes or clues at the opening of each bit and also votes by applause at the conclusion of each round. A large electronic scoreboard records the applause and tallies the results.

Comedy improv groups have become a very popular form of live entertainment. From “Whose Line Is it Anyway” to “Second City Comedy Club” and “Saturday Night Live”, improv comedy provides lots of laughs for the audience and a rich artistic outlet for the players.
