The City of Newport Recreation Department will be holding the local competition for the Aquafina “Pitch, Hit, & Run” competition  on Monday April 25th  from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Toppa softball field son Freebody Street.

This free contest is open to Newport boys and girls who are ages 7-14 as of July 17, 2011 and will qualify them to advance to the state finals to be held at McCoy stadium on May 21st.

All participants compete in 1 of 3 age divisions and  by sex and include the skills of hitting for distance and accuracy, pitching for accuracy, and running for time.

All participants in the Newport contest will receive a free ticket to future Pawsox game. State winners may advance to the regional competition held at Fenway Park in June, and are honored at a pre-game ceremony at the Paw Sox.

Last year Newport’s Gavin Crowley, the statewide boys 7-8 champ threw out the first pitch at a PawSox game.
