Worried about Irene? Hello all stations. You are invited to participate in an on-the-air FRS radio exercise Friday, Aug 25 at 8pm on FRS Channel 3 which is 462.6125 MHz.
The purpose will be for the island's communities to practice with their FRS/GMRS radios and to assist building a "mental map" of other nearby users. Depending on the severity of the storm, these radios may be the only form of communication that the general public has available. The range you achieve could be 1/8 mile, but it could also be 3 miles. It depends on many variables. This is an opportunity to see what works best for your situation.
After some initial words from the "net control," all listeners are invited to check-in by simply transmitting your first name and your town (e.g. "This is Ralph in Middletown, over"). The drill will conclude by 8:30pm.
