Public Forums For Newport County General Assembly Candidates To Address Economic Future of RI

Citizens Concerned About Casino Gambling will host two Newport County Candidate Forums for candidates seeking election to the Rhode Island General Assembly in the November 2, 2010 elections.

Both forums will focus on state fiscal and policy issues that impact the future of Newport County and State of Rhode Island economy and will be held at the Community College of Rhode Island (Newport Campus), John Chafee Boulevard, Newport, RI.

The forum for House Candidates will be held on Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at 6 p.m. The following candidates from the House districts in Newport County have agreed to attend: District 69: Rep. Raymond Gallison (D) and William Grapentine (R), District 70: Rep. John Edwards (D) and Nancy Driggs (R), District 71: George Alzaibak (D) and Daniel Gordon (R), District 72: Rep. Amy Rice (D) and Daniel Reilly (R), District 73: Rep. J. Russell Jackson (D) and Gregory Larson (I), District 74: Rep. Deborah Ruggiero (D), Anthony Mastrostefano (R) and Daniel Capuano (I), District 75: Rep. Peter Martin (D) and Patrick Donovan (R).

The forum for Senate Candidates will be held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 6 p.m. The following candidates from the Senate districts in Newport County have agreed to attend: District 10: Senator Walter Felag (D) and Virginia Butterworth (R), District 11: Senator Charles Levesque (D) and Christopher Ottiano (R), District 12: Senator Louis DiPalma (D) unopposed, District 13: M. Teresa Paiva-Weed (D) and Geoffrey Cook (R).

Citizens Concerned About Casino Gambling was organized in 1977 to fight the establishment of casino gambling in Newport.  Its mission today is to oppose the expansion of casino gambling in Rhode Island.
