Van Johnson Birthday Celebration

 

Newport & Bristol County Convention & Visitors Bureau invites the public to celebrate the birthday of Newport native and Hollywood legend Van Johnson, with the showing of "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo" at the Jane Pickens Theater, 49 Touro Street, Newport at 3 p.m. today, on what would have been the Newport native's 94th birthday. Johnson died in Nyack, N.Y., at 92 on Dec. 11, 2008.

The screening is free, and tickets are available in advance at the Gateway Visitors Center on America's Cup Avenue and at the theater on Touro Street on the day of the event. After the screening, there will be birthday cake and a proclamation from Mayor Jeanne-Marie Napolitano honoring "Van Johnson Day" in Newport.

After the showing:

  • Newport Mayor proclaims August 25, "Van Johnson Day"
  • Enjoy a slice of birthday cake in his honor
  • Complimentary tickets to the film available
  • For the first 300 people, and may be picked up at The Newport Visitors Info Center, 23 America's Cup Avenue, Newport, first come first served.
