Eyes on the Water: This Week's Regattas, J-Class, Etchells and More!

J-Class Regatta
June 15-19

Velsheda and Ranger, two J Class yachts will race against each other until Sunday. According to the J Class Association, the race organizers, this is the first regatta of a multi-event series, with the hopes to return to Newport in 2014.

Ranger beat out Velsheda during Wednesday's race.

Stop by the Newport Shipyard around 4:30 p.m. for a complimentary Grey Goose beverage and to get a look at these magnificent boats!

Broke E. Gonzalez Advanced Race Clinic
June 17-19
Sail Newport is holding it’s 10th annual race clinic for young sailors between the ages of 14 and 18.  The clinic will teach the children to maneuver in a range of sailing conditions from flat tidal waters to choppy bays and the open ocean.

NBYA Governor’s Cup
June 18-19
This Narragansett Bay Yacht Association regatta is open to all boats with a valid 2011 PHRF-NB rating certificate and for one-design.

Etchells Newport Series - New England Championship
June 18-19
The Etchell class, a three-man keelboat, will compete for the New England Championship this weekend in Newport Harbor.


2011 Block Island Race Week XXIV
June 20-24

• IRC Class will compete for the IRC East Coast Championship
• J/122 Class will compete for the National Championship
• J/109 Class will compete for the East Coast Championship
