Facebook Fight On Vernon Avenue: One Arrest
A Newport man was arrested Sunday after a family fight over a Facebook status, police said.
NEWPORT, RI—Officers were called to Vernon Avenue at 9:23 p.m. Sunday for a report about a large fight in a parking lot next to a residence. After investigating, police arrested Christopher O. Rogers, 42, of Newport at 10 p.m. According to police, the fight started over a Facebook post. Relatives had been living with him, and he was unhappy someone clicked the Like button on a status.
During the fight, one of the family allegedly spit at him. He declined to press charges. But he was accused of pushing a victim down the stairs. Ultimately, police charged him with Domestic Simple Assault or Battery and with Domestic Disorderly Conduct.
