Fire Destroys Building At Newport Bus Yard

A small building was completely destroyed in an evening fire at the Durham School Services bus yard in Newport.

NEWPORT, RI — Fire broke out at the Durham School Services bus yard in Newport on Tuesday evening, completely consuming a small building. According to Newport fire officials, the small wooden building was almost completely consumed when firefighters arrived st the scene.

The fire broke out just after 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the 66 Halsey Street facility. The wooden building was located at the back of the lot, behind the parked buses. When firefighters arrived at the scene, the building was already 75 to 100 percent consumed by the flames, the Newport Fire Department said. Firefighters from Newport stations 1, 2 and 5 were all called to respond. The building is considered a total loss.

No school buses were damaged by the fire and no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
