Fire Sends Smoke Into Air on Newport's Ledyard Street on Sunday Afternoon
The Newport Fire Department put out a fire in a duplex on a side street between Broadway and Bliss Road.

NEWPORT, RI—A working fire at a duplex at 19 Ledyard St. on Sunday afternoon caused damage to the shingles and siding on the exterior, but no one was injured, according to Deputy fire Chief Drew Elder.
Edler said the first alarm came at 2:50 p.m.
"The fire was knocked down fairly quickly," he said, but the firefighters had to deal with smoke in the attic and the danger of fire in concealed spaces inside the house.
