First Flakes Of The Season Fall In Rhode Island

Rhode Island saw its first snowfall of the season Friday morning, with much of the state seeing a fine coating to slight accumulation.

More snow fell than originally forecast. Earlier this week, it looked like just the northwest corner of the state would see a few flurries, which was later upgraded to as much as three inches in the interior part of the state.

What littler accumulation gathered Friday won't last, however, with temperatures expected to climb back into the 50s over the weekend.

Snow, mainly before 3 p.m. High near 37. North wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.

Mostly cloudy during the early evening, then gradual clearing, with a low around 26. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph.

Saturday
Sunny, with a high near 46. North wind around 6 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon.

Increasing clouds, with a low around 35. South wind 3 to 5 mph.

Sunday
A chance of showers, mainly after 7 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 59. South wind 7 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent.

Showers likely, mainly before 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 37. Southwest wind 10 to 14 mph becoming west after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Mostly sunny, with a high near 45. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 23 mph.
