Flash Flood Watch Issued for RI Through Wednesday Night

Heavy rainfall is possible this afternoon, the National Weather Service said.

Rhode Islanders -- keep that umbrella handy and be ready for the possibility of heavy downpours this afternoon (Wednesday).

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for all of Rhode Island. It will last until 9 p.m.

The weather service said heavy rainfall this evening could result in β€œrapid significant flooding of urban areas and small streams.”

Urban areas, small streams, underpasses and other flood prone areas could flood.

β€œKeep in mind flooding may not be widespread,” the flood watch stated. β€œBut rather limited to a few locations in the watch area, especially near the south coast.”

The rain could coincide with the evening commute, so be prepared for low visibility and ponding if you’re driving in the rain.

The silver lining is that the passing storms will deliver a batch of clear, dry air. Thursday is forecasted to be sunny with a high around 78 degrees.
