Get Your Kids Dolled Up for Some Teddy Bear Fun
The Newport Public Library will host children and their favorite fluffy friends for the 2nd annual Teddy Bear Picnic this Sunday afternoon.
If you're looking for something fun and free to do with the kids this weekend, there may not be any better, or cuter, option than the Teddy Bear Picnic at Aquidneck Park.
Sponsored by Newport's Secret Garden Tours, the 2nd annual event starts at 4 p.m. and will feature storytelling, a Parade of the Teddy Bears, a "Well Teddy" clinic, Ben & Jerry's treats, and a special performance by "Johnny the K."
Pack a picnic and grab a teddy, but first be sure to dress your kids up in comfortable, yet stylish, gear. Patch recently headed down to Groovy Gator on Thames Street for some fashion inspiration for both boys and girls.

"I try to bring in clothes that are first comfortable, but that are also funky and classic at the same time," said store owner Leslie Cathers. "The kids should still look like kids. So many kids clothes are adult driven."
Boys won't have to slow down in the super comfortable City Threads Plaid Shorts ($30) and Coco Bonbons Collared Shirt ($30), paired with a soft Navy Cardigan with Grey Piping from Egg by Susan Lazar ($48).

For girls, we like the Navy Ruffle & Grosgrain Front Dress ($44) that is part of the Groovy Gator's own line of clothing.
"These outfits are great because they are classic but with a signature style," Cathers said. "The kids can move freely in them so it doesn't bother them to be wearing clothes that aren't necessarily your typical play clothes."
The Teddy Bear Picnic is being hosted by the Newport Public Library, Newport Recreation Department, Newport Hospital and Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream. For more information, go to www.newportlibraryri.org or call the recreation department at 845-5800.
