Heating Oil Prices Slightly Lower Here than Statewide

Statewide, heating oil prices have risen for two weeks in a row. Here on Aquidneck Island, the C.O.D. prices are slightly lower.

The statewide average for heating oil prices has risen for two weeks in a row, with this week’s average at $3.67 per gallon, according to a recent report by the Providence Journal. Calls to oil suppliers who deliver on Aquidneck Island showed the price for C.O.D. delivery of 200 gallons or more coming in at $3.60 per gallon, slightly less than the statewide average, with Tiverton's Wild Cat the bargain at $3.52 per gallon as of yesterday. Even though the statewide data from the Office of Energy Resources shows a week-over-week increase, this week’s $3.67 average is less than the 6-month high, which was $3.78 the week of Nov. 14, 2011. A look at the price one year earlier is sobering; for Jan. 4, 2011, the average was $3.22 per gallon. And going back 10 years? For the week of Jan. 7, 2002, the average was $1.21.
