Heavy Rain, Thunderstorms Lash Rhode Island

Expect the rain to return in time for Thanksgiving Day.

NEWPORT, RI — It's a wet one in Rhode Island on Monday. Heavy, driving rain and scattered thunderstorms arrived in the early morning and are expected to continue throughout the day. While skies will clear for the next few days, the rain is expected to return just in time for the holiday.

Periods of heavy rain could bring some isolated street flooding. The heaviest rain is expected before 3 p.m., the National Weather Service said. Later in the afternoon, showers are expected to taper off and clear heading into the evening hours.

Tuesday and Wednesday are expected to be dry and chilly, with clear skies and highs in the low 40s Tuesday and cloudy skies with temperatures in the low 50s Wednesday. The rain returns Thursday, with an 80 percent chance of showers on Turkey Day that are expected to spill over into Black Friday.
