High Wind Warning, Advisory Issued Ahead Of Storm

Damaging winds are expected across Rhode Island, especially in Newport and Washington Counties.

NEWPORT, RI — Damaging high winds could knock down trees and power lines along Rhode Island's coasts on Friday, the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency warned on Thursday afternoon. A high wind warning has been issued for Newport and Washington Counties, while a wind advisory is in place for the rest of the state.

Rain and patchy fog are likely throughout the day on Friday, followed by partial clouds later in the day. The advisory goes into effect at 2 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. Wind gusts as high as 60 MPH are possible along the coast and on Block Island.
