NEWPORT, RI — Two Coggeshall School neighbors and a Portsmouth man were charged on Friday morning with Willful Trespass, after they allegedly tried to enter the vacant building by the fire escape, Newport police said. Around 1:05 a.m., police were called to Van Zandt Avenue by another neighbor who wanted to report a break-in in progress. The woman caller said she was sleeping, heard the noise and saw the suspects on the fire escape attempting to open the school window. When she told them she was calling police, one of the suspects allegedly shouted back, "I'll beat you up."

The woman who called police flagged officers down and told police she saw the trio run into 140 Van Zandt Ave. She also gave descriptions of each suspect and then identified them for police.

Police charged Emily Castonguay, 21, of Newport, and her roommate Alexandria Farias, 22, with Willful Trespass. They live in an apartment adjacent to the school.
