Injured Newport Child Remains At Hasbro Children's Hospital

The youngster's condition is not being released. Police said the driver will not be charged.

NEWPORT, RI—The seven-year-old boy injured Friday afternoon in a collision with a motor vehicle remains at Hasbro Children's Hospital. He was airlifted to Providence around 3:30 p.m. His condition has not been released.

Police investigated the accident by talking to eyewitnesses. They said the car did not hit the child, who was riding a bicycle. Rather, the child rode into the vehicle broadside and hit the passenger side of the vehicle, which was moving at the time.

The accident happened around 3 p.m. near the corner of Hillside Avenue and West Evans Street. The driver, a 27-year-old Newport resident, does not face charges at this time, police said.
