It's National Night Out against Crime Thursday
Get the chance to dunk the mayor and several Newport police officers and firefighters tonight and much more.

On Thursday, August 14th, 2014, the Newport Police Department’s Community Oriented Policing Division will be holding their 13th Annual National Night Out Against Crime.
The event is being organized to bring the community together in a positive way with area social service agencies, neighborhood groups, businesses, organizations, as well as the Newport Fire Department, RI State Police, and local police departments.
The department is planning on offering information on bike safety, child car seat safety inspection information, gun safety, as well as child identification kits provided by Newport Police and St Paul’s Masonic Lodge 14.

At the conclusion of the night there will be a drawing for three sets of his/her bicycles with helmets and a lock.
In past years Newport has had up to 50 local businesses and organizations participate and several hundred children and families attend. Some of this year’s list of confirmed attendees includes, Newport School Department, Newport Clean City, Island Surf & Sports, Villani’s Martial Arts.

There’s the added fun of a dunk tank again this year with Mayor Harry Winthrop along with several Newport Police Officers and Newport Firefighters making an appearance at the dunk tank.
The event will be held at Easton’s Beach from 4PM to 6PM in conjunction with the Newport Recreation Departments Children’s Night with a performance by “Toe Jam Puppet Band.”
