It's Newport's Night Out Against Crime Tonight

Come on down to Easton's Beach to dunk the mayor, enter a raffle, hang out with some local police officers and friends and more.

Want to dunk the mayor? A few cops or firefighters? Gather with fellow Newporters to make a statement against crime -- and for togetherness in peace?

Head to Easton’s Beach tonight for the Newport Police Department’s hosting of the 14th annual National Night Out.

National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch, will involve more than 16,124 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, more than 37.8 million people are expected to participate in “America’s Night Out Against Crime.”

McGruff the Crime Dog will be there, too, along with what looks to be perfect weather in the forecast.

The event, which runs from 4 to 6 p.m., also will include a raffle, food, a merry-go-round, and more.

In past years Newport has had up to 50 local businesses and organizations participate and several hundred children and families attend.
