Jamestown's Neronha To Run For State AG

Peter Neronha, the former U.S. Attorney who lost his job when the Trump administration cleaned house, will run for Attorney General.

JAMESTOWN, RI—Former U.S. Atty. Peter Neronha is running for state Attorney General, the post held by Peter Kilmartin. Kilmartin is term-limited and cannot seek another term. Neronha will make his announcement on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 10:30 a.m., at the Jamestown ferry landing, according to a press release put out on his behalf Monday. Here is the information.

Mr. Neronha, a Jamestown native, and career state and federal prosecutor, will be joined at his announcement by family, friends and community leaders.

Mr. Neronha most recently served as Rhode Island’s United States Attorney until March 2017, when he and 45 fellow United States Attorneys appointed by former president Barrack Obama were ordered by President Donald Trump to resign. Prior to serving as United States Attorney for nearly eight years, Mr. Neronha served as an Assistant United States Attorney from 2002-2010 and as a Rhode Island state prosecutor from 1996-2002.
