Jewelry Store Robbery: Second Suspect In Custody

Warren police picked up Nicholas J. Tavares, 34, of Bristol. He was wanted by Newport police.

NEWPORT, RI — A second suspect has been charged in connection with a jewelry store robbery reported earlier in July. Nicholas J. Tavares, 34, of Bristol, was arrested July 18 at 11:30 p.m. at the police station and charged with three felonies: Larceny over $1,500; Breaking and Entering a building (with felonious intent); and Conspiracy. The charges stem from a robbery at House of Windsor on Goddard Row.

According to the arrest report, Tavares allegedly pawned some of the stolen items at Empire Loan on Broad Street, Providence. His involvement in the robbery was first reported July 6, and Newport police issued an arrest warrant. Warren police took him into custody on July 18.
