Johnston Man Convicted of Murder Of Stacie Dorego
Donald Greenslit is guilty of murdering and dismembering his girfriend in their Johnston home last year.
Donald Greenslit has been found guilty of murdering Stacie Dorego in January, 2012, according to the state Attorney General's office.
Donald Greenslit, 53, formerly of Johnston, was convicted of . Greenslit then dismembered her body and attempted to dispose of it in a basement fireplace while the two children slept upstairs. Firefighters were called to the 16 Pershing Road home when smoke filled the house because the flu was not fully open.
“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the family of Stacie Dorego. They will struggle to find peace after the murder of their beloved sister, mother and friend for a long time after today’s verdict,” said Attorney General Peter Kilmartin Monday. “This was a highly emotional trial, and I commend the prosecutors for laying out the evidence in a clear path for the jury to follow and find Donald Greenslit guilty of this horrific crime.

Greenslit initially refused help from firefighters, who ultimately discovered the grisly scene. Members of the Johnston Police Department responded to the scene at about 8:10 p.m. Jan. 22, 2012, after a report of smoke coming from the home.
The two young children were evacuated brought to Hasbro Children’s Hospital to be evaluated for smoke inhalation.

Attorneys for both sides presented their closing arguments Friday and jurors came back with the guilty verdict Monday. The court scheduled a hearing for March 29 on Greenslit's request for a new trial, according to the Providence Journal.
