Kayaker Who Died In Newport Waters Identified
The East Providence man was an avid recreational fisherman who frequently kayaked in the area.
NEWPORT, RI — The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management (DEM) identified the man who died why kayaking Wednesday off the coast of Newport.
The kayaker was identified as Rui Resendes, 56, of East Providence. Resendes was an avid recreational fisherman who frequently kayaked in the area.
Newport fire officials recovered his body and found an overturned kayak in the waters off Price Neck around 9 a.m.

Authorities said the cause of death is not known and will be determined by the Medical Examiners’ Office.
DEM officials said Resendes was not wearing a life jacket.
