Labor Day 2019: What's Open, Closed In Newport

NEWPORT, RI — As the beaches empty out and kids head back to school, summer unofficially comes to an end over Labor Day weekend. As you have your summer send-off barbecues, many services will be taking a break for the holiday weekend.

Here's a list of what's open and closed on Labor Day.

• Retail stores: Open at owner's discretion
• Liquor stores: Open
• Supermarkets: Open
• Convenience stores: Open
• Restaurants, bars: Open
• Banks: Closed
• Libraries: Closed
• Stock market: Closed
• Municipal, state, federal offices: Closed
• Mail: Post offices closed; express delivery only
• RIPTA: Sunday/Holiday schedule. All offices, including Kennedy Plaza, will be closed.
• Trash Collection: Delayed one day (Monday collection bumped to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, etc.)
